Deicke Park – Enjoy an Active Lifestyle!

Opened in 1992, Deicke Park is a popular neighborhood park that’s adjacent to the communities of Bridgewater and Fountain Spring (including the Optima Village townhomes and condos). Its main entrance is at the corner of NW 106th Avenue and NW 12th Street. Residents in these and other nearby communities come to enjoy the various amenities Deicke Park offers, including two tennis courts, a basketball court, a sand volleyball court, and a large children’s playground with several park benches surrounding it, making it easy to sit and watch the little ones playing!
Deicke Park has a walking-jogging trail that winds around the park and features several exercise stations. There’s even a few benches (some in shady spots!) alongside the trail for those who just want to relax and enjoy the outdoors. You’ll also find lots of greenspace for open play areas in case you feel like playing catch with your kid, going kite flying on a breezy day, playing Frisbee or any number of other open-air activities.
For larger, planned events Deicke Park offers a picnic pavilion that’s available for rental (for information, call the City of Plantation’s Parks and Recreation Department at 954-452-2500). If you’re planning an event, keep in mind that there is only parking for 20 vehicles which includes two handicapped spaces. The park does have restroom facilities and is open until sundown.
While there’s lots of activity in Deicke Park on weekends and weekday afternoons, you’re likely to find someone enjoying it just about any time of the day which is why I was surprised when I found myself shooting the video of the park amenities at a time when no one was around (see it at the end of this post). Another benefit to living near Deicke Park is that this is one of those parks where you can easily meet and get to know your neighbors and perhaps even make a few new friends! For any dog lovers out there… unfortunately, no animals are allowed in the park. 🙁
