Plantation’s Midtown Trolley – Convenient and Free!
By Leanne Paynter · February 11, 2008

I’ve been seeing these charming trolleys around Midtown Plantation for several months. If you’ve visited the area of Plantation between University Drive and Pine Island Road (south of Cleary Blvd.), chances are you’ve seen them, too. The trolleys give the area a sense of nostalgia while providing passengers a free air-conditioned transportation service covering all of Plantation Midtown which is the city’s central business district.
In recent years, the City of Plantation has been implementing its master plan for Plantation Midtown in an effort to create an urban town center. Many area residents are employed at one of the malls (Broward Mall and the Fountains Shoppes of Distinction) or at one of the corporations that have regional/national headquarters here (American Express, DHL, Centex Homes, etc.). Others work in the numerous professional offices, medical complexes, government buildings, as well as restaurants and hotels in and around Plantation Midtown. The trolley is ideal for them to use, especially during their lunch time if they need to run some local errands or just want to get to one of the local eateries.
If you’re thinking of relocating to Plantation, Florida, and want to live in an area that’s thriving AND improving, then this may be just what you’re looking for! Residential communities located within the Plantation Midtown boundaries include the Westree townhomes, Village Townhouses at Jacaranda and the newest condo community that was recently completed… Veranda at Plantation. There are several other residential neighborhoods adjacent to Plantation Midtown whose residents can easily take advantage of the convenience of the trolley service.
If you’d like to take advantage of this service, you should know that they operate on Monday through Friday, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, and make their way around two loops with convenient stops at places such as the Broward County Government Center, Broward Mall, Fashion Mall, The Fountains Shoppes of Distinction, Westside Regional Medical Center, Broward County Library and Courthouse, as well as the Broward County Mass Transit Center.
You can view the Plantation Midtown Trolley’s route here or call 954-797-2640 for more information.
UPDATE: Sadly, I’ve heard that this service has been discontinued. However, the Plantation Tram service is still available.
